In Deep Gratitude | It Takes a Village/Community
Yesterday, I officially became an ONYX Pearl Associate of the New York/Northeast Chapter. Cross over marked the culmination of much growth and hard work the last six months, and a multitude of thoughts swamp my mind as I consider this unanticipated milestone in my ten year journey. However, before I begin to unravel all tangled thoughts, I first need to give much, much, MUCH thanks to the MANY who assisted me in my steps to being an ONYX Pearl. Without their support, encouragement, friendship, and love I would not have found my way on this path into Sisterhood nearly as well.
My previous Sir | While our time together was not nearly as long as either one of us had wanted, He taught me much. One of the most important lessons He demonstrated again and again throughout our relationship was the importance of community. His personal commitments and dedication to His Ghanaian Community as well as His Lodge offered me a glimpse at the personal fulfillment such relationships can bring. He always said Lodge was like air and water to Him, a required part of His life that He could not live without. Toward the end of my pledge process, I finally understood what He had tried to explain to me. I get it now. ") Sharing space and time with my Sisters fills me in a way I never imagined and always leaves me with a deep sense of peace and joy, even on the toughest of days. Thank you, Kwesi. You very much opened my mind to this path on my journey.
My dear friend @_Silent_ | I love and appreciate you more than I can say! It's been almost three years since I walked into my first MAsT meeting, and from the start of my time in the NYC Scene you've been instrumental in my understanding of the broader community and my own personal growth in the lifestyle. I wouldn't be where I am today without your very special energy encouraging me and the many opportunities you've put in front of me. Your insight, thoughtfulness, consideration, patience, and kindness moves mountains. Wonder Woman, you are one of the most amazing women I've ever known, and I am grateful every damn day for our friendship. ~TIGHT HUGS~ I look very forward to the many more shenanigans in our future!
Clark aka Sherpa aka @MrCunningLinguist | Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your honesty, thought-provoking, encouragement, and endless instigation over the last few years. In all of our discussions, debates, and even arguments about WIITWD, you've challenged me/my thinking nearly every damn time and never failed to encourage me to reach for more of what I want and need. That continuous encouragement of exploration helped me find the road I am currently on. You are a blessing, Sherpa. ~wicked wink~
My Vanilla Family | They don't always understand why I do what I do LOL, but they understood how important this was for me and quickly saw the positive influence ONYX Pearls had on me. My Vanilla Family's (~cough~ they ain't all that vanilla. It does run in the family!) continued acceptance and encouragement of my lifestyle is vital to my well-being, and I am eternally grateful that they see (to various extents) but most of all accept me.
My Kink/Lifestyle Friends & Family | Thank you for your love, support, and encouragement especially when my attention was focused on pledging, in particular @BlackMusic, @Kandela,
@boykevin, @LaDeeJekylndHyde, @PhoenixRefined, and all of my @MAsT_Metro_NY Family. It meant the world to me that you believed in me and my path. If I forgot anyone, my sincerest apologies. I'm still gathering my wits.
@Pharaoh_Khaf-Ra | Sir, you dropped some SERIOUS knowledge on me that I will forever be grateful for and carry with me as I begin my own Leather Journey. Thank you for willingness to share your honest and eye opening perspectives. I have no doubt it will help me be a better ONYX Pearl and serve the organization with an eye always on the bigger, long-term picture. I am in your debt.
Sir Eli Ra | Sir, with a blush and a smile, I thank you for breaking me in on the Leather Tradition of Boots to Balls at New Jersey Leather Weekend. LOL You definitely reminded me to find and EMBRACE the fun and joy in what we do! ~HAT TIP~ I will carry that memory and the lesson with me forward.
The ONYX Brothers | I am just a bit in awe of you all! ") Your welcoming arms, laughter, and willingness to share your knowledge of all things Leather have been a blessing! I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
My @OnyxPearlsNY-NE Sisters | Damn, I have never met a group of such BAD ASS phenomenal women!!! I am still a whole lot in awe of you all! Thank you for inspiring me with your honesty, straight-forwardness, laughter, knowledge, dedication, and unapologetic FIERCENESS! I feel like I've finally found a home that understands my spirit, and I am honor to be your Sister. I look very forward to getting to know each of you more as well as sharing knowledge and experiences in the coming months and years of our journey together. #MeanGirls ")
My Big Sis aka @BLennoxx | Thank you so much for your honesty and willingness to embrace our truth. Your acceptance and mentorship during my pledge process helped me find my groove. I look very forward to building our friendship and Sisterhood!
The Pledge Mistress aka @_Silent_ | (Yes, this is sort of a different person than my friend. lol) We couldn't have done it without you!!! Your vision, your direction, your compassion, your push and pull, your encouragement...you saw us through every step of our entry into Leather. (And you made SURE there were a LOT of STEPS! LOL) I am thankful for each and every one of those steps because you opened our minds, hearts, and souls to the deeper meaning of a Leather Lifestyle and Sisterhood, and I will forever be grateful that you were there to lead the way.
My Line Sisters @DeedeeDahmer & @Phoenix_O aka 3 the Hard Way | Ladies, you changed my fucking world and taught me what Sisterhood means. We each came into this with full lives, but we made room for each other and found a bond that I will forever cherish. We've shared knowledge, questions, frustration, tears, confusion, even anger, as well as hopes, joy, laughter, jokes, and much much love and acceptance. Through it all we've stood by one another and fought FIERCELY to grow, learn, and get through the pledge process. No matter what...we never gave up on one another. We each brought unique and valuable perspectives and skills to the table. We accepted each other's flaws without hesitation and embraced each other's strengths. Together we found our way...3 the Hard Way! As DeeDee once said...We are the STORM! You both are a HUGE piece of my WHY. Thank you for all that you've shared, given, offered, and done. I am better for having both of you in my life. I can't wait to see what we do next! ~FIERCEST HUGS~
For anyone on the outside reading this, LOOK at ALL of those who willingly gave to me in big and small ways in order to help me get where I am today. ALL of these amazing people contributed to my journey, and I am profoundly humbled and honored by their generosity. THIS is what COMMUNITY MEANS!!! #ChosenFamily It may not be perfect, but it is damn sure stunningly beautiful. Be kind to one another. Respect one another. Get to know one another. Get involved. Together we can accomplish amazing things or even change one person's journey for the better. ")
In deepest gratitude,
~DominaKat
